That about sums up Nokia Oy's maiden effort to crack the personal-computer market with its Booklet 3G. The world's largest maker of mobile phones comes tantalizingly close to producing the first truly great netbook. But the Booklet is done in by performance compromises dictated by an effort to keep its price competitive.

FRUSTRATED householders have complained of poor broadband services, calling for internet companies to make much-needed improvements. The new RIM smartphone has a 2-megapixel photo snapper, an optical trackpad for navigation, a built-in GPS receiver and geo-tagging capabilities.

MSc (Tech) Väinö Virtanen has developed a method for analysing snoring sounds by using a PC with a microphone connection and a wireless microphone. The objective was to create an application that could be used at home to monitor snoring. By utilizing this technology, researchers from Tampere University of Technology and the University of Helsinki have investigated sleep disorders and further refined related screening technologies.
